Petaling Jaya MP Tony Pua said he will be looking to take legal action against the government for today barring him from leaving the country without any reason.

The DAP leader said that it was not fair that he, an MP who was not involved in any criminal investigations or any wrongdoing be barred from going abroad without due process and adequate warning from the Immigration Department.

"As far as I am concerned, I have absolutely not committed any crime and this is a gross violation of my right to travel.

"I will be consulting my lawyer, Gohbind Singh Deo and will file a lawsuit against the government from preventing me from leaving the country without proper reason," he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Pua was stopped by the Immigration Department at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport today while attempting to check-in for a flight to Yogjakarta, Indonesia. Other than Pua, Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli and The Edge Media Group's owner Tong Kooi Ong ( photo ) have also been banned according to Immigration Department's website.

Asked whether he might be arrested over the matter, Pua said he was determined to do his job.

"Is this an act of intimidation? If I am cowed, I wouldn't have this press conference. It won't stop me from raising issues of 1MDB," he said.

In related matter Pua said he will continue legal action against former journalist  Lester Melanyi who alleged that Pua part of a conspiracy to malign 1MDB, the government and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

He said Lester's status as a bankrupt would not protect him legal action that will proceed soon.

"I can sue the bankrupt man. I just can't get any money. I'm doing it for the truth," Pua said.

'I have never met Justo'

Pua also admitted he had met Sarawak Report 's Rewcastle-Brown on numerous occasions but said he was not involved in forging any documents.

"No. I have never met Justo. And I have never seen Lester in my life. I’ve met Clare (Rewcastle-Brown) many times, in Singapore, London, etc.

“Whatever information I got is whatever Claire put up on Sarawak Report ," he said.

Police are investigating Pua, his opposition colleague Rafizi Ramli as well as The Edge Media Group owner Tong Kooi Ong under Section 124 of the Penal Code.

The probe is related to allegations that they were involved in the tampering and fabrication of documents related to 1MDB to oust Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Police also said statements by Lester and Swiss national Xavier Andre Justo ( photo ) are being probed under Section 124.

Lester Melanyi claimed Rafizi and Pua were in cahoots with whistleblower website Sarawak Report in fabricating the documents.

Most of The Edge and Sarawak Report 's articles were based on documents and e-mails leaked by Justo, a former PetroSaudi International (PSI) employee.

Justo is being detained in Thailand over his alleged attempt to blackmail his former employer with the stolen data.
