Following the cabinet reshuffle yesterday, Federal Territories Gerakan Harapan Baru chairperson Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli said that BN is now in "self-destruct mode".

"BN is in self-destruct mode. Events from today and yesterday showed us that evil managed to survive," he said in a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

The country has been waiting for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to resign due to the issues related to 1MDB plaguing his administration, he said, but instead Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin ( photo ) was the one who got booted out .

Even those in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) which was probing the 1MDB allegations were taken out and put into the cabinet, Hatta said, including its former head Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

Meanwhile, those who wish to make things right again such as Muhyiddin and former Rural and Regional Minister Shafie Apdal, who have been critical of 1MDB, were discarded in the cabinet reshuffle.

"The anxiety in the country right now must be balanced with a kind of sanity. Sanity must prevail," the Kuala Krai MP said.

He suggested that the new Pakatan Rakyat, with Harapan Baru replacing PAS, will be the one to return sanity to the country.

Yesterday, Najib announced his new cabinet, which saw the dropping of five ministers and the appointment of seven new ministers.

It had been speculated earlier that Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin would be axed from the cabinet due to his criticisms of the 1MDB issue.
