'Claims info tampered, reason to postpone PAC'

Allegations that information relating to 1MDB was tampered with is enough grounds for the Public Accounts Committee's (PAC) investigation into the state-owned company be postponed.

BN strategic communication director Abdul Rahman Dahlan said this in reference to the BN-controlled Parliament's insistence that the PAC cannot proceed without a chairperson.

PAC chairperson Nur Jazlan and three other committee members were appointed into the government last Tuesday.

"We are not saying the documents were tampered. This is from the Thailand authorities.

There is merit to postpone the meet so the agencies can recheck," he was quoted as saying in a New Straits Times report today.

Abdul Rahman, who is also a federal minister, was referring to leaked information from PetroSaudi International which included its email correspondence with 1MDB.

This information, which was allegedly stolen and sold by former PetroSaudi director Xavier Andrea Justo ( photo ), was used by several news outlets as a basis to alleged misappropriation of funds by 1MDB in its joint-venture with PetroSaudi.

However, the PAC's investigation is based on the auditor-general's investigation into 1MDB.

It is unclear why Abdul Rahman had linked the alleged tampered information to the PAC's investigation.

Whistleblower portal Sarawak Report , which was among the news outlets that used the leaked PetroSaudi report, has stood by its report and has challenged critics to sue it.
