Now Penampang Umno wants Muhyiddin censured
After one Sabah Umno division nominated newly minted Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as the party’s deputy president, another wants Muhyiddin Yassin, the current No 2, to be censured.
Penampang Umno division passed a resolution for Muhyiddin to be censured for failing to uphold the party’s reputation, integrity and honour, reported The Star Online today.
According to the report, the division claimed Muhyiddin flouted Article 20.8 of the Umno constitution in his speeches at the Cheras, Pagoh, Kemaman, Kluang and Semporna division meetings, by allegedly passing negative comments detrimental to the party.
This is the first attempt to censure Muhyiddin.
The motion was raised by Nambazan branch chief, Fredie Suah at the party’s division meeting on Saturday, where they claimed that Muhyiddin spoke about the party president and on national issues.
The division’s motion stated that although Muhyiddin’s speeches could be deemed as advice, it also had negative elements and could tarnish Umno’s reputation.
Penampang Umno division chief, John Ambrose said its division approved the resolution as no member was above the party’s rules.
“As a deputy president, Muhyiddin should lead by example for other members to respect party regulations but his actions proved otherwise,” he said.
It is understood that Muhyiddin is overseas at the moment.
