Students at Parliament sit-in won't budge
A group of 20 students, known as #Langkahsiswa, who are holding a sit-in outside of Parliament have refused to budge despite appeals by Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
Spokesperson Lau Yi Leong said that said they will not vacate the area until Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak steps down.
"We will not leave. We are accused of vandalism but we are just sitting here and waiting for the prime minister to respond," said Lau.
The group has been holding a sit-in since yesterday evening . They were confronted by City Hall representatives at 10am today.
After 20 minutes of negotiations, the City Hall personnel left.
Another spokesperson Mohamad Amar Atan told Malaysiakini that #Langkahsiswa welcomed the police's announcement that stun guns will not be used for crowd control during Bersih 4.
However, Mohamad Amar said what remains to be seen is whether the authorities will allow Bersih 4 to take place at all.
Mohamad Amar, who is the University Malaysia students association present (PMUM) said that the police's announcement showed that they agreed that Bersih 4 is a peaceful event.
#Langkahsiswa is demanding that Najib step down as premier over his role in the 1MDB controversy and the receipt of RM2.6 billion in "donations".
