Those who plan to gather for a rally in support of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak should not be prevented from doing so.

BN strategic communications director Abdul Rahman Dahlan said this in response to Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos who promised to gather one million people on the streets in support on Najib on Oct 10.

"It's going to be exciting, isn't it.

"Since everybody wants to show their feelings on the street, so if another group of people want to take the opportunity to demonstrate, we should not prevent them from doing so," Rahman said.

He went on to claim that there were many "indecencies" with regard to the Bersih rally.

Rahman ( photo ) also said it was any group's right to come up with its own rallies.

"I hope no one will oppose this. I heard hundreds of thousands will come out.

"And we will see. We want to show that there are many who support the government as well as the prime minister's leadership," he said.

The red-shirted anti-Bersih group led by Jamal had courted attention from many when it held mini demonstrations in Kuala Lumpur to show its opposition to the Bersih rally.

Members of the group stomped on a placard of Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah's face as well as broke wooden planks with their heads during the demonstrations.

The group called off its march just hours after defiantly vowing to go ahead with the protest against the Bersih 4 rally.

The decision was made after Jamal met with Kuala Lumpur police chief Tajuddin Mohd Isa and Dang Wangi police chief Zainol Abu Samah, just before the Bersih rally.

The Bersih rally, which was held for 34 hours over the weekend, saw tens of thousands of people gathered near the vicinity of Dataran Merdeka.

Despite threats of arrests, especially with the rally declared illegal by the authorities, the rally ended peacefully without any major disturbance.
