The red shirt rally Perhimpunan Maruah Melayu that is planned to be held in central Lumpur on Sept 16 will be illegal if the organisers fail to give notice to the police.

Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Law Hong Soon said the organisers must also get permission from the venue owners to hold the rally.

"So far we have not got any notice... If they don't give notice, fail to get permission and disobey the law, then we will take action," Law said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

He said action might be taken after the rally is held, as is being done in the case of the Bersih 4 protest.

The federal capital’s deputy police chief also confirmed that police are investigating posters on the rally, which depict racist elements, under the Sedition Act.

The red shirt rally is being held to counter the allegedly racist and Chinese-dominated Bersih 4 gathering on Aug 20-30.

One of the red shirt rally's spokespersons, Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos, was called to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters for questioning today.

Najib: Umno members free to join the rally

Several Umno leaders have pledged to mobilise thousands of members to join the protest.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has said that Umno members are free to join the rally as long as they abide by the law.

As for the missing deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morais, Kuala Lumpur CID chief Zainuddin Ahmad declined to divulge any new details on the police investigation.

"It is still under investigation," Zainuddin said when asked about CCTV evidence on the case, and on details about the burnt-up car that was found in an oil palm plantation in Perak.

He said police have already questioned 15 people, mostly acquaintances of Morais.

Morais, the deputy head of the trial and appeals division of the Attorney-General’s Chambers since July 1 last year, was reported missing last Friday , after leaving his condominium at Menara Duta, Kuala Lumpur, in his government-issued vehicle with the number plate WA 6264 Q.
