'Discipline, sincerity, needed to prevent discord in Pakatan Harapan'

Discipline and sincerity in cooperating are needed among opposition parties so as not to create discord and enmity within new coalition Pakatan Harapan, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) emphasised today.

Amanah's director of communications Khalid Abdul Samad, who is also Shah Alam MP, in a statement welcomed the stand by PKR to strengthen Pakatan Harapan and agreed that it remains open to all who wish to join it.

“However, the need for discipline and sincerity must be emphasised so that our opponents will not be able to create discord and enmity within Pakatan Harapan as they managed to do with Pakatan Rakyat.

“Each component member of Pakatan Harapan must be committed to Pakatan Harapan and must also be clear who our common enemy is,” Khalid said.

To fulfil this objective, he said, Amanah suggests the immediate formation of a Pakatan Harapan secretariat and a president's council.

“This is to ensure issues of common policies and the mechanism for managing differences in opinion can be finalised for our mutual agreement and commitment.

“The practise of mutual consultation in an effort to achieve consensus in facing all matters still remains the policy of choice,” Khalid emphasised.

The Shah Alam MP was responding to a statement issued by the PKR leadership yesterday.

He said it showed that PKR remains focused on the task of building a united and strong opposition front in order to handle the deepening economic and leadership crisis Malaysia is facing.

Khalid also praised the PKR leadership, with its president, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, showing maturity and wisdom in managing differences.
