An Umno division leader has expressed support for the six-month suspension from Parliament slapped on DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.

"This is the price one pays for arrogance," said Syed Ali Alhabshee.

"And there were many instances when Lim had ticked off people by being obnoxiously rude," added the Cheras Umno chief in a blog post.

Lim, who is the MP for Gelang Patah, was suspended today following his refusal to apologise for his remarks deemed as insulting Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia.

Syed Ali said the veteran opposition leader's accusation that Pandikar had abused his power concerning the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and its 1MDB probe was audacious.

"These are serious allegations that tarnish the image of the speaker, who has served with absolute integrity, and also rubbishes the proceedings of the Dewan Rakyat.

"Lim also categorically refused to apologise to Pandikar, despite the speaker giving him a chance to do so," he added.

The Umno leader also claimed that DAP leaders often hurled insults against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, ministers, BN lawmakers and "more importantly, the Malay rulers".

Syed Ali said Lim's allegation against the speaker was also a swipe at the prime minister as it insinuated that Pandikar was helping Najib cover up the truth about 1MDB.

"But such insulting behaviour against the PM, Malay rulers and the Malays by the opposition must stop.

"I hope they will learn their lesson from Lim's suspension," he added.
