Bersih slams Najib critics in BN for voting for budget

Bersih today condemned critics of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on the government side of the Dewan Rakyat for voting in favour of Budget 2016 at policy stage.

This includes former deputy prime minister and Pagoh MP Muhyiddin Yassin and Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah who have vocally criticised the Najib administration, the electoral watchdog said.

"Bersih is disappointed with the 128 MPs who through supporting the budget showed they don't care about accountability and corruption issues involving the PM...

"Their stance shows support for Najib, despite months of scandals including claims that funds linked to 1MDB went into his personal bank account, as reported by intenational media," it said in a statement.

Bersih urged the MPs who criticise Najib to redeem themselves by supporting Opposition Leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail's motion of no confidence against Najib.

The motion has been submitted, and could be debated in this sitting which ends Dec 3.

A total of 74 MPs on the Opposition bench voted down the budget at policy stage last night to send a signal of no confidence against Najib, amid allegations of poor governance and corruption.

The budget was passed at policy stage with 128 BN and Independent MPs voting in favour, and goes to committee stage debates and final voting today.
