PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail came under fire for “degrading” the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) in her response to Lumut MP Mohamad Imran Abdul Hamid’s remarks.

MCA vice-president Chew Mei Fun said it took two days for Wan Azizah to chastise her PKR member for his remarks that the sexy attire of athletes would lead to illicit sex .

Asked whether Imran was a male chauvinist for saying so, Wan Azizah had said that he was an admiral who has been at sea most of the time.

However, Chew said it was obvious that Wan Azizah was trying to appease both women’s groups as well as the ultra-conservatives.

“In fact, her justification only aggravates Imran’s accusation by disrespecting the Malaysian Armed Forces, as the Permatang Pauh MP is suggesting that high-ranking military personnel (not foot soldiers) are prone to promiscuity,” Chew said in a statement today.

“Moreover, her lament of ‘being at sea’ reiterates the ridiculous and inconceivable image of naval officers and crew undergoing adolescent bodily changes and yearning to see males and females in tight-fitting clothes once they anchor at the ports!” she said.

She added that Imran, as a first admiral in the navy, would surely know better about the importance of developing maritime and navigational policies instead of churning “broad-sweeping sexist comments”.

“... These comments degrade both male and female athletes as well as the audiences and supporters as lust-filled people who are incapable of controlling their sexual indulgences.

“Both Wan Azizah and Imran should know better than to disparage the sacrifices and contributions of the Malaysian Armed Forces, and in this context, the Royal Malaysian Navy, which play crucial roles in defending our nation’s sovereignty and security,” Chew added.
