Respect 'elected' No 2, Shafie tells 'appointed' Ku Nan
Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor must show some respect for party deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin, Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal said today.
Shafie said this after Tengku Adnan issued a warning to Muhyiddin yesterday to “not cross the line” at the gathering in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, that Muhyiddin spoke at last night.
Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor must show some respect for party deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin, Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal said today.
Shafie said this after Tengku Adnan issued a warning to Muhyiddin yesterday to “ not cross the line ” at the gathering in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, that Muhyiddin spoke at last night.
"He (Muhyiddin) is the deputy president, you (Tengku Adnan) are the secretary-general.
"He was elected, you were appointed... don't just ask others to show respect. You have to respect others too," Shafie said in an interview at his office in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, today.
He added Muhyiddin had done nothing wrong and had only given his advice.
"Muhyiddin wasn't asking for our party to be destroyed. What he said was his opinion […] that should be respected," Shafie said.
In his hour-long speech at the Sultan Sulaiman club last night, Muhyiddin had among others said that cancerous elements need to be removed from Umno.
He also said Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak should take a break pending investigations into 1MDB.
"If he is not involved and we pray he is not, then come back to serve as prime minister again," Muhyiddin had said.
Tengku Adnan when met at PWTC in Kuala Lumpur today, however, said the speech had crossed the line and Muhyiddin may lose his position in Umno because of it.
