Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin today warned that those who want to destroy party to leave it.

“We have our limits although we hope for unity in the party.

“But if there are those who refuse to heed the call of unity and continue to act to the detriment of the party, then we have to make tough decisions about their place in Umno,” he told a press conference after the Umno Youth general assembly today.

Asked whether he meant Umno president Najib Abdul Razak or his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin, Khairy simply said that everyone knew whom he was referring to.

“We refer to the institution of the party [..] those who want to ruin the party’s institution have one leg in the party while the other leg is seen as being outside the party.

“I think they know who they are,” he said.

Khairy may have declined to state any names, but it is clear that his statement refers to those who are currently swimming against the party's tide.

Muhyiddin and Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal appeared to have been sidelined by the party after they were both sacked from their cabinet posts for being increasingly vocal against Najib’s leadership.

Asked whether a time limit was given for the leadership to solve issues plaguing the party, Khairy expressed hope that everyone would be united in Umno.

“But if there’s still signs of a split in the party after the Umno general assembly has concluded, then I think we should take action,” he said.

'We didn't boo anyone'

Khairy was then asked how Umno Youth would ensure that those responsible behind efforts to destroy Umno were handled.

“We have drawn the line here so if there are any individuals in Umno who continue to cross the line after this then we will have no choice but to institute disciplinary action against them,” he said.

Khairy also pointed out how Umno Youth was still showcasing its respect for Umno's top leaders including deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin.

Commenting on Muhyiddin's entry into hall which the Umno Youth assembly was being held, Khairy said the wing did not have problem with that.

“We still give him respect. The same as when (vice-presidents) Zahid (Hamidi), Hishammuddin (Hussein) and Shafie (Apdal) entered the hall.

“We didn’t boo anyone. No one received any less support […] when the president entered, he received a rousing response,” he said.
