Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he will discuss the recent call made by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to be arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma).

Zahid said it was the prerogative of the police (whether to investigate the matter).

“I haven’t discussed the matter with the inspector-general of police (Khalid Abu Bakar) yet.

“I will discuss it (with him) depending on how strong the evidence is,” he said.

Mahathir made the call on Monday night, pointing out how that since former Umno leader Khairuddin Abu Hassan was arrested under Sosma for lodging reports overseas, then Najib should also be arrested for jeopardising the country’s democracy.

He claimed Najib was undermining democracy by preventing people from speaking about issues such as 1MDB, particularly during the ongoing Umno annual general assembly.

Mahathir was speaking at a gathering which was held in support of Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin.

And in a blog post on Wednesday night, Mahathir also accused Najib of having tried to bribe him .
