Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin today said he believes there is no reason for him to apologise to anyone.

He said this in response to Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein who yesterday said there was still room for Muhyiddin and Umno vice- president Shafie Apdal to apologise to Umno.

Speaking to reporters today, Muhyiddin argued that what he had touched on so far were not personal issues but rather on the issues of leadership and party-related matters.

“And don’t think I am against the party’s aims which are to state the truth because I really love Umno and I want the party to remain and continue to be reliable.

“That’s why I don’t think there is a reason for me to apologise to anyone and I hope this won’t be misconstrued.

“So don’t make assumptions. I will continue to attend the assembly until it ends,” he said at the sidelines of the final day of the ongoing Umno general assembly at the PWTC in Kuala Lumpur.

Hishammuddin had said it was up to the deputy president and vice-president to make an apology to re-unite the Umno top leadership as urged by the party members.

Although they could apologise to the party for their actions, investigations would still be carried out by the Umno special committee, he added.

A portal aligned to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, MyKMU.net , had claimed that Muhyiddin may tender an apology to his boss today.

Najib and Muhyiddin had a falling-out over 1MDB, resulting in the latter being removed from the cabinet, together with Shafie.

Muhyiddin and Shafie have since been sidelined by the party, and are taking jabs at Najib over the 1MDB scandal.
