Selangor MCA has slammed opposition parties DAP and PKR for failing to chastise Malacca Amanah's Wanita wing (Awan) for condemning the Miss Tourism beauty pageant recently held in the state.
"Since DAP and PKR did not disavow Awan Melaka’s stance in objecting to beauty pageants, this clearly shows that Amanah’s inclusion into Pakatan Harapan was nothing but a political game," Selangor MCA liaison chief Ng Chok Sin said in a statement.
Their inaction over the matter, he added, showed that the party was not serious in divorcing themselves from the hardline-Islam stance of PAS and at the same time debunked DAP’s whitewashing of Amanah as 'moderates'.
Amanah, he argued, 'was none other than a self-presentation of a milder version of PAS'.
Ng also rapped DAP for its charade of severing ties with PAS on the grounds that it disagreed to PAS’ insistence in implementing hudud enactments, but still teamed up with Amanah nonetheless.
As Amanah on the onset announced that it upheld hudud law, Ng argued that there was no difference between PAS and the new splinter, and as such, DAP's acceptance of the new party has left its 'integrity in shambles'.
"What is the difference between Pakatan Harapan and Pakatan Rakyat?" Ng asked in challenging the newly-minted opposition pact to clarify its stance on hudud law.
On Tuesday, both Malacca PAS and Amanah hit out at thestate government for holding the beauty pageant which they claimed demeaned women in general and contravened Islamic scripture.
