Harapan will fail unless PKR, Amanah obey DAP, claims Umno man
The strength of Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) will depend on how far PKR and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) are willing to abide by DAP’s demands, claimed an Umno lawmaker.
Sekijang assemblyperson Anuar Manap reportedly said that while Harapan had formalised its cooperation through a formal seven-point agreement, history has proven how its two past cooperations – as Barisan Alternatif and Pakatan Rakyat – had failed.
Anuar claimed the failures were allegedly due to DAP’s insistence on pushing its agenda on PKR and Islamist party PAS, which has since been left out of Harapan.
“That's why the key to the strength of their new coalition is to obey the DAP and not based on the seven points contained in the agreement signed.
“Amanah and PKR are just sharing the agreement and to complement it. Nothing more than that because DAP could be said to have the final say,” said Anuar as quoted by Umno online.
He added that Harapan would suffer the same fate as the two past cooperations if the alleged tactic continued.
Harapan was formed on Sept 22 last year after PKR, DAP and PAS had officially dissolved their six-year political cooperation under Pakatan Rakyat.
Harapan had on Jan 9 unveiled and signed its seven-point common agreement , with an understanding that any party which goes against its consensus can be kicked out of the coalition.
The agreement, however, did not explicitly state the pact’s stand on hudud , an issue attributed as one of the factors that had led to Pakatan’s dissolution after a prolonged disagreement between PAS and DAP.
Anuar also claimed it was PAS’ refusal to compromise with DAP that had led to the demise of Pakatan.
“That is the consequence of picking a fight with the DAP. Any excuses given for the crisis were just mere excuses. Anything can be done. With these latest developments, we can see the DAP’s move in the new pact.
“I think it would be difficult to change and the conclusion would be that Amanah and PKR could not just simply step over DAP (in making decisions).
“Harapan will only succeed if PKR and Amanah remain as loyal followers,” he claimed.
PAS has since declared both DAP and Amanah as its enemies, but insists on preserving ties with PKR.
