The police are investigating a claim by a group of Temiar Orang Asli that a state assemblyperson had fired a gun into the air during his visit to Kampung Sungai Papan, Gerik on Jan 19.

Perak CID chief Goh Kok Liang said in a statement in Ipoh today that the case was being investigated under Section 39 of the Firearms Act 1960.

Yesterday, a local paper reported that the Orang Asli had lodged a report at the Bukit Aman police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur claiming that they were not allowed to make a report against the assemblyperson at the Lenggong-Gerik police station.

Meanwhile, Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abd Kadir said the state government had handed over the case involving the assemblyperson to the police for further action.
