Salor assemblyperson Husam Musa is just out to seek attention, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said.

Takiyuddin said this after Husam called on him and PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah to resign for allegedly failing to carry out PAS’ hudud agenda.

“I was once (Husam’s) secretary, when he was PAS Youth chief, before he was appointed as Kelantan executive councillor.

“Politicians are like that. I see it as attention-seeking,” Takiyuddin, who is also Kota Baru MP, told reporters at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

As such, he is not slighted by Husam’s accusation that he doomed PAS’ hudud ambitions by encouraging party president Abdul Hadi Awang to hastily present the Private Member’s Bill on hudud to Parliament last year.

The bill to amend Act 355 and pave the way for the Islamic penal code to be implemented in Kelantan made it into the Dewan Rakyat order paper, but was never debated as the House was occupied with other matters.

“No, it’s normal. I don’t feel like he stabbed me in the back,” Takiyuddin said, referring to Husam ( photo ) as an old friend.

He said it was up to Kelantan PAS to take disciplinary action against Husam, if it chose to.

“Let Kelantan handle Kelantan matters,” Takiyuddin added.

Act 355, or the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, states that the Syariah Court can mete out maximum penalty of five years’ jail, RM5,000 fine or both.

The Act needs to be amended to allow the court to impose hudud sentences such as amputation for theft.

Husam, a former PAS vice-president, said Takiyuddin and Mohd Amar should resign because they were involved in discussions with a representative of a federal minister on the matter.

He said the representative had, on March 18, 2015, told the Kelantan government that a bill can be tabled in Parliament to amend the law and pave the way for hudud to be implemented in the state.

The representative then urged Hadi to table a Private Member's Bill on this immediately.

Husam claimed that this meeting, and the decision to submit the bill for tabling, was never brought to the PAS central committee.

This prompted Kelantan PAS Youth to demand Husam gives up his Salor assembly seat, arguing that Husam was bringing harm to the party.

Hadi’s move to submit the bill, without consulting with Pakatan Rakyat partners DAP and PKR, led to the break-up of this opposition coalition.
