PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin said that it is alright for a leader to doze off during functions as long as they fulfill their obligations to the electorate.

Zuraida who was also said to have dozed off herself in Parliament admitted that she may have shut her eyes for a while, as she waited and listened to debates.

"I think that sometimes we are tired and will shut our eyes. Its not that we fall asleep, but just to rest and past the time, while listening and what not, this is what people refer to as dozing off.

"It's a normal human trait. Only God almighty knows who is asleep and who is awake; humans do not have that ability.

"I am not saying this because we too have dozed off, but the rakyat must understand and be mature. Humans all have shortcomings, and this is one of them. It does not mean that if we doze off we cannot do work or such and such," she said when contacted by KiniTV .

Pictures of Pakatan Harapan leaders like former Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, and Zuraida herself dozing off in the House has been circulated on social media.

The pictures came on the footstep of snipes against newly-minted Kedah MB Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah who was labeled as a 'sleepyhead' for allegedly dozing off on the day he was sworn in, and on several other occasions.

The Ampang MP said that the matter of dozing off is not an embarrassment and the people should not judge a leader's calibre and performance based on it.

"So it's not an embarrassment but we must also look at other aspects like how the person do their job, serve the public, and their performance in Parliament. To me those are more important," she concluded.
