Mat Sabu: Don’t donate to my personal account
Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu urges those who wish to donate to him to do so through the party’s bank account, and not via his personal bank account.
Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, is facing bankruptcy if he fails to pay RM200,000 in damages, after losing a defamation lawsuit brought by former Election Commission deputy chief Wan Ahmad Wan Omar.
“The president gives a million thanks to concerned Malaysians who wish to help him pay damages of RM200,000.
“However, he does not want the donations to go to his personal account. All donations must be made through proper party channels,” his aide Mohd Azhar Mat Dali said in a statement.
He said those who wish to contribute can contact the secretariat at 011 3571 2316.
Wan Ahmad sued Mat Sabu for claiming he is an Umno member. Mat Sabu said this in an article in PAS organ Harakah, when he was PAS deputy president.
He left PAS with several top leaders to form the splinter party Amanah, after the faction was trounced in the PAS election last year.
Earlier, Amanah urged the public to check with the party before making any donations to avoid fraud.
