Harapan: Mahathir is weak, he needs us more

FellowMalaysian: How could former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad be strong when he could not even defend his own son from being forcibly removed from his MB’s post?

Mahathir was the proponent and who first drafted the recently endorsed Citizens' Declaration. So naturally, by virtue of him being a senior statesman, he played the lead role in gathering all the interested parties together.

The actual reaching-out to the people in the coming days and weeks or perhaps months will be organised and handled by the various groups and parties which took part in the declaration.

So the question of whether Pakatan Harapan or Bersih's leaders have acceded to having Mahathir assume the lead role never arises.

Anonymous 1890491455255851: I can't see how Pakatan Harapan can make real strides to being a real coalition to take on BN.

We have been hoping and hoping, but there is little evidence of really strong leadership. It just seems too fragile.

I and many more want it to be strong so I trust that Harapan will take a good look at itself and make the change required in looking and behaving like a strong challenger to this much-maligned government.

Anonymous 2402521456737582: "Meanwhile, Amanah Shah Alam parliamentarian Khalid Samad asked how many BN parliamentarians were with Mahathir."

Not many. But if he's patient the Umno grassroots will sway. They are the real voters, not the fat cats.

Wsoi: It only takes a swing of five percent of Malay votes to Harapan, and BN will lose GE14.

Harapan may not gain much from the Citizens’ Declaration, but if Umno loses the confidence of its members, that by itself is an advantage for Harapan.

Anonymous 560221439180274: This will be the only country in the world that wants to oust a sitting PM based on accusations made by an ex-PM, an ex-DPM, a newly formed alliance and the foreign media.

Two things are bound to happen before the coming election, especially among the Malay voters, who form nearly 60 percent of the voters.

They will either rally around PM Najib Razak, that is, if proven before the next election that all this had been a planned conspiracy. Or Umno-BN will be completely erased from the political scene.

And all it takes is for just one person from among the conspirators to expose the conspiracy, if it really exists, to bring down the frail opposition.

Anonymous #07451242: PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, with due respect, I do not agree with you.

You have failed to unite Harapan or even the previous Pakatan Rakyat. You are a weak leader.

This is not the time for small-time bickering. Please remember in politics, there are no permanent friends or enemies. Please give way to Nurul Izzah or Azmin Ali or even Rafizi Ramli.

Mah Kau Fan: Wan Azizah, stop making such childish statement about who is stronger or weaker. Just work together to attain a common objective.

Despite his age and faults that have led us to this precarious position, Mahathir has not turned his back but tried to make things right. We all, should be grateful for that.

Wandering Star: Both Harapan and Mahathir are not strong... they need each other.

Najib is aware that without Anwar Ibrahim leading the opposition pack, they will only wander in the wilderness, but with Mahathir leading the charge, this has sent shivers down the PM's spine.

Anonymous 2402131456903688: Mahathir was responsible for the demise of judicial independence, messing up of the education system, cronyism, nepotism, etc.

Also failed projects like the Bakun Dam and Proton are Mahathir’s infamous achievements.

Over50ABU: Once Mahathir is back in Umno, the opposition will be forgotten and blamed for everything. And it will be back to the drawing board, with the opposition demanding for change which will never come.

Mahathir, give us your guarantee that all the reforms will be met once Najib is ousted. I hope all citizens will demand for that. It is suicide collaborating with an evil dictator who is only interested in his own agenda.

Fear: Whether Mahathir needs Harapan more or vice versa is not important. What is important is that the people of Malaysia need both Mahathir and Harapan working together to get rid of Najib.

Frankie: Yes, it shouldn't matter who is riding on who. Of utmost importance is to free our institutions from the grip of the government.

Once that is done, all good things shall slowly fall into place.
