Parliament looks away from PM's billions

The multi-billion deposits in Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's personal bank accounts may be getting international attention but Parliament turned a blind eye by rejecting discussions on the matter, calling it "unverified" information.

Among the reported money flow was US$7 million which went from Najib's account to his brother Nazir Razak, who stressed who was only helping his brother to disburse money to certain individuals for the election and did not involve any wrongdoing.

Another transfer was US$14 million to fashion house Jakel Trading between 2011 and 2014, which a DAP MP found puzzling as even if the prime minister bought its most expensive dresses for his wife at RM10,000 each, it would translate to four new dresses a day.

However, a pro-Najib portal claimed the money was for charity purposes.

No end in sight for 1MDB

1MDB was still unable to submit its financial statement ending March 31, 2015 and has been given a second six-month extension until Sept 30 to do so.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is also struggling to complete its report on 1MDB, which has over RM42 billion in debt, within this Parliament session.

However, Najib told Parliament that none of 1MDB's debt was overdue .

Past and present Mahathir

Meanwhile, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad continued to hammer at Najib's credibility, citing 53 international media reports about Najib and the 1MDB scandal.

However, a federal minister pointed out the irony of this as Mahathir was fond of blasting the international media when he was prime minister.
