Even three Chinese DCMs will not make a difference

YOURSAY | ‘The issue is not about having a Chinese DCM in Sarawak.’

Did Adenan really promise a Chinese S'wak DCM?

Vent: So here we are again on the merry-go-round of BN election promises, post-election. But really why is anyone surprised?

Hasn't this been the time-honed modus operandi of the bona fide and allied BN camps? What is surprising is that Chinese Sarawakians fell for it.

But perhaps it will be a case of once bitten twice shy in future elections?

Hello: The Chinese in Sarawak who voted SUPP swallowed CM Adenan Satem's ambiguous words, hook, line and sinker.

Now they realised Adenan played them out, so they will have to live with it for the next five years in regret and penance.

MA: From whatever way you look at it, the smarter person was Adenan. If we have three Chinese DCMs, what difference will it make?

Wira: This is not about having a Chinese DCM. By right, no Malaysian should be represented by ministers on racial basis.

This is about cheating and intentionally misleading voters. By not clarifying the matter when he had more than a week to do so till polling day, Adenan clearly had the intention to cheat and mislead.

Anonymous_1371547149: Adenan said "of course" when the journalist first asked him whether a Chinese will be appointed as a DCM, and went on to say "the only way is to vote SUPP ".

Adenan, why did you not clarify that the positions in the cabinet will be determined later?

You knew the Chinese were misled and you even allowed the SUPP candidates to misrepresent this promise during their election campaign. Shame on you.

Prudent: If Adenan did not deny the erroneous report even if his own coalition partners used the erroneously reported promise in their campaign, he is estopped from denying it after the Chinese delivered their votes to his coalition.

The erroneously reported promise become binding because it was not denied, and the Chinese delivered on the basis of that erroneously reported promise.

Adenan, being a lawyer, should know this as a basic tenet of contractual law. The Chinese will not easily forgive being conned so brazenly.

Vijay47: The classic Umno-BN ruse to have their cake and eat it too when it serves their purpose.

Yes, even if the Borneo Post had made a small but far-reaching error in its report, the perception became a reality in the face of Adenan's continued silence and failure to set the record straight.

Thus when the chickens come home to roost, he can always piously claim, "I did not say that." Which of course brings us to the next possibility - was it really an error or a deliberate part of a cunning strategy?

In the end, Sarawak’s Chinese like non-Malays everywhere got their wagon fixed but good. Welcome to the club.

Just a Malaysian: We need good Malaysians to serve all races. Having a Chinese DCM only gives a false sense of security for the community. We need to vote for good, honest and smart people.

Mahsuri: From the comments made in this article, Malaysians on both sides of the South China Sea truly deserve the politicians we have today.

Everyone is still addicted to race and religion. Corruption exists in Indonesia, China and India... so how is any one race any more morally superior to the other?

Sarawak gets three deputy CMs, Sim not among them

Fairplayer: In fact, the wiser Chinese mostly didn't bother about a Chinese DCM. Didn't they boot out one Chinese DCM in 2011? What use is a DCM to the rakyat?

Those in the know, please share with the "mentally-disabled", instead of just pointing accusing fingers at them. Start with family and friends and get them to do the same.

Let the educating spread fast before GE14. I have started. Have you?

Speaking Sense: In order to avoid having to choose between pathetic Sim Kui Hian and lapdog Wong Soon Koh, what does Adenan do?

Appoint neither as deputy and the Chinese be damned - after all, Wong and Sim will still say yes, yes, to everything anyway.

And how do you justify having a Malay as CM and Deputy CM in a state where the Malays are in the minority?

Anonymous_5fb: Why must there be a certain race or religion in the cabinet to reflect supremacy of so-and-so race/religion or being fair to so-and-so race/religion?

What we rakyat want to see that people in there are credible, capable and responsible, so that the country's resources are well-managed.

So, what is the use if a Chinese is the CM or PM if he or she can't manage the state or country well?

FellowMalaysian: We can only hope that the state government do not renege on its other promises of multi-billion-ringgit development projects, funds and other contributions made during the election campaign.

I plead to Sarawakians to liberate the state from the shackles of a tyrannical government. Adenan is only a one-term CM and acts only as Umno-BN's appointee.
