The Youth wing of the Selangor Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) will accept the decision of Pakatan Harapan should a PKR candidate be chosen to contest in the Sungai Besar by-election.

If PKR is chosen for the battle, Selangor Amanah Youth chief Abbas Azmi said, they would continue to work for PKR in the by-election campaign.

“If PKR is destined to be chosen, we will accept it on the basis of Pakatan Harapan’s consensus,” Abbas said at a press conference at Selangor Amanah’s headquarters in Shah Alam today.

However, he also cited the stand of Selangor Amanah chief, Izham Hashim, who has stated that all PAS seats in Selangor would be the seats that Amanah will contest.

“This is because Amanah has replaced PAS in Pakatan Harapan. That stand is very firm,” Abbas said.

Also present at the press conference today were representatives from Selangor DAP Youth.

Selangor PKR Youth leaders were not in attendance but Abbas said they have given the ‘green light’ in that their machinery, too, will be used during the by-election campaign.

Abbas also said that Selangor Amanah Youth has been getting its election machinery ready in the Sungai Besar parliamentary constituency over the the past two weeks.

“Until today, the response we have received has been very positive. Each of our efforts have been welcomed by the local people,” he said.

He also confirmed that Selangor Amanah Youth would work with both DAP Youth and PKR Youth in all election campaign programmes in Sungai Besar. This, he said, was to ensure that Umno/Barisan Nasional would lose in the constituency.

Expressing confidence with the parties’ machinery, Abbas said they therefore expected to achieve a favourable result in the by-election.

On the purported ridiculing of Amanah’s election machinery by PAS, Abbas said that it is the rakyat who would decide on the outcome of an election

“So it doesn't matter how strong the PAS machinery is, even though the Amanah machinery is small,” he said. He went on to note that PAS had the tendency to lose even in seats where it attracted many people to its ceramah sessions.

Amanah has consistently expressed its intention to contest in both the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections.

Apart from Amanah, both PAS and PKR are also eyeing the Sungai Besar seat.

The by-elections, to be held on June 18, were called following the deaths of Noriah Kasnon (Sungai Besar MP) and Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad (Kuala Kangsar MP).

The two were among six people who perished in a helicopter crash during the recent state election campaign period in Sarawak.
