PM splashes allocations in Kuala Kangsar

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak announced a slew of allocations during his blitz in Kuala Kangsar, including close to RM1 million for the Indian community.

Najib gave RM194 million in aid to the rubber industry, telling small rubber farmers that he had fulfilled their wishes and asked that they now fulfil his - for them to support BN.

He also announced a RM43.5 million allocation for a new bridge as well as upgrading Kolej Universiti Islam Sultan Azlan Shah to a full varsity.

BN did not only come out guns blazing with allocations, but also fired several salvoes at Pakatan Harapan with Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin claiming that Parti Amanah Negara leaders comprise of people who hail DAP’s Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng.

He even mocked Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali’s absence in the Sungai Besar campaign trail, claiming that it showed a lack of commitment and therefore voters should back BN.

MCA and MIC too jumped on the bandwagon, describing Amanah as a “slightly mutated” version of PAS.

Meanwhile, Bersih expressed concern at the appalling campaign tactics by all quarters in the twin by-elections.

Ministers skirt snub on rulers over NSC Bill

Government ministers were bombarded with questions on Putrajaya’s move to gazette the National Security Council (NSC) Bill without royal consent, but none were willing to comment during the sensitive period of the by-elections.

Meanwhile, DAP continued to hammer on BN’s move to ignore the Conference of Rulers’ concerns over the legislation, describing it as disrespectful to the sultans.

Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs said the NSC Bill, which became law on Tuesday, is a dark chapter in the country's history.

Citizens' Declaration drama

Programmer Azharuddin Othman, who alleged fraud in the Citizens’ Declaration petition, denied making a U-turn statutory declaration, claiming the document which was circulated online was fake.

He was also met with a surprise when Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah, whom he accused of buying a database of names from him for the Citizens’ Declaration, gatecrashed his press conference and challenged him to a religious oath over his allegation.

Other Kini bites

PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli released a video of large number of luggage for Rosmah Mansor’s private jet ride, but Rosmah’s aide Rizal Mansor said they were for 13 passengers and seven crew members.

Artist Fahmi Reza was charged under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for uploading clown-faced images of Najib at the Ipoh Sessions Court.

Felcra admitted that it took over the financing of the Menara Felcra project but denied an initial plan where it would get free office space.

The family of 19-year-old Muhammad Amirul Azwan Mohd Shakri, who was jailed for a year for insulting Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Ibrahim on a football issue, claimed he was beaten up by police.

Looking ahead

The Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-election campaigns crosses the halfway mark as they enter the seventh day of campaigning. Polling is on June 18.

In Sungai Besar, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be giving a keynote speech at a DAP forum on 1MDB. He will be doing the same in Kuala Kangsar tomorrow.
