Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali has threatened to reclaim pieces of land given to the federal government for public interest.

He claimed that several land parcels the state government approved for the construction of utilities such as schools remain undeveloped.

“During the executive council meeting, we have decided that the state government secretary hold a meeting with the Education Ministry to obtain feedback on whether there are plans to build schools.

“The federal government had sold some pieces of land to the private sector for commercial purposes. Certainly this is against the spirit of the alienation of the land to the federal government.

“We gave the land for the rakyat. (If this continues), we will take back the land,” he said.

Azmin said the federal government had only paid a nominal premium when it bought the plots of land from the state government.

“But when they (federal government) sell, it’s based on market price. I think this should not continue,” he said.

Azmin in April had claimed that several tracts of land given to the Federal Land Commissioner (PTP) had their ownerships transferred to certain companies.

For example, Azmin said that the state government’s land in Bukit Raja, Petaling District has been sold by the federal government to a private company.
