More than a year after complaints filed, MIA still probing 1MDB auditors

JD Lovrenciear: When professional bodies talk like this, what can you look forward to?

"We will tell you once we are ready," said Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) chief executive officer Nurmazilah Mahzan.

This is a most arrogant answer, and mind you, this after a year has flown by.

Patma: As a member of MIA, I am deeply ashamed with the inefficiency demonstrated by the management team and the council.

If an MIA member is late in paying the annual fee, they are very efficient in sending reminders. But for investigations, they can't demonstrate the same efficiency.

Rupert16: MIA means 'missing in action'. That says it all as to why their investigations into Deloitte and KPMG are not going anywhere.

Fair&Just: Even MIA cannot be trusted, if its members can sign off dubious accounts with no accountability.

If things are like that, how to do business here?

Boeyks: All these investigating teams - Bank Negara, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), police, the Attorney-General's Office, accountants and auditors are a waste of time.

We must wait until the Department of Justice (DOJ) of a foreign country proceeds with the case. Even the reports of money siphoned away to purchase properties, artworks, Berlin handbags etc, they can't see.

Merdeka: As for Nurmazilah, actually we understand, you are only a small fry in the chain of command.

Don't bother, as the US DOJ is doing what your organisation should have done aeons ago. And when it is all done and dusted, I am certain you will be one proud professional body.

Taking a year and more on a matter of importance is doing injustice to the profession and to the public that you serve as a watchdog of professionalism.

Dr M, Anwar's legal teams to join hands on bid against NSC

Existential Turd: I try to judge an issue on a case-by-case basis, and not on the personalities involved.

Although I am doubtful of Dr Mahathir Mohamad's sincerity and the extent of his support for reform and repentance over his past misdeeds, repealing the National Security Council (NSC) Act is something that must be done.

It is also one of the few things for which he can claim the moral high ground over PM Najib Razak. Regardless of the probability of success, there is no harm trying. At least he gains some brownie points.

If that is what he is aiming for, then it is certainly a shrewd political move. From my own perspective, either way, the people don't lose, as long as they don't let the enthusiasm go to their heads.

The Analyser: This is the beginnings of a big fat hoax. First up: We know that this challenge is guaranteed to fail. So why would Mahathir want to support it unless he had other ulterior motives.

The bottom line still is that with all the forces of the opposition united, they are still a long way behind BN in the polls.

Then there is PAS. What will they do? I'll wager they will support neither BN nor Bersatu but they will prevent the opposition from gaining ground. Prepare to be conned... again.

Add to this scenario the fact that the Chinese have been known to support Mahathir in the past. They will go where the money is. Further, add that in the very near future that both DAP and PKR will be under heavy bombardment from Umno.

And the hoax is almost a fait accompli. Whichever way you look at it DAP, PKR and silly little Amanah is history about to happen. That's what I call repentance.

RR: The NSC Act must be repealed as it has violated the federal constitution. I am sure many Umno leaders know this, but are silent for obvious reasons.

It is best the cabinet withdraws it on its own volition, rather than the courts declaring NSC as ultra vires the constitution.

Sarawakian: I hope this opposition cooperation will lead to much bigger things. In your heart of hearts, Mahathir, you know Anwar Ibrahim should have been prime minister.

JD Lovrenciear: Go Mahathir, go. It is the true way forward. As long as you have all right-minded Malaysians at heart, go and do all that it takes to return Malaysia to a better path, better than even in your 22 years at the helm.

Tell the Truth: Now the plot in the story is getting more exciting. The good guys are preparing for the assault, and the bad guys are pissing in their pants.
