EC rolls out controversial redelineation exercise

The Election Commission (EC) announced that it will finally be conducting a nationwide redelineation exercise.

Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua cried foul after the EC planned to change his constituency to Damansara and increase its size by 76 percent, which although is likely to make it easier for him to win, would come at the expense of other opposition strong seats.

Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin said the imbalanced redelineation exercise justifies Bersih's upcoming rally in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 19.

Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Joseph Kurup urged the public not to participate in "illegal rallies"

Bersatu's Anwar dilemma

Sodomy II complainant Saiful Bukhari Azlan urged Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) not to soil its struggle by advocating for jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's freedom.

Anwar was jailed in February last year on a sodomy conviction the former opposition leader claims is politically motivated.

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he can't say no to Anwar's freedom if that is the "desire of all", but said no promises can be made unless the opposition, including Umno splinter Bersatu, gain power.

Mahathir also dodged Anwar's daughter Nurul Nuha's call for him to apologise to her father for sending him to jail on his first sodomy conviction, claiming he had "no idea" about the request.

Meanwhile, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin in a Malaysia Day message urged the people to elect a new government, warning of the risk of a failed state otherwise.

Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai confirmed debris found in Tanzania belongs to the missing Malaysia Airlines MH370.

The Johor Baru High Court changed the two-year-jail sentence against 19-year-old Muhammad Amirul Azwan Mohd Shakri for insulting the Johor crown prince, to requiring him to attend a correctional school until he is 21.
