YOURSAY | 'He has already done enough damage through his poor judgement.'

Mahathir: Muhyiddin fit to lead Bersatu, but the nation...

Roguekiller: Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad does not know exactly where he stands.

He should be wise enough to plan something as simple as earmarking the right and capable person to be leader, but Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Muhyiddin Yassin is not that person.

Muhyiddin’s past racist statements are good enough to disqualify him from being leader in a multiracial, multicultural and multireligious country. Besides, he could not manage the Education Ministry when he was the minister.

Mahathir should put his pride aside and promote jailed former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, whom the majority Malaysians support.

Existential Turd: Dr M admits to having "chosen the wrong leader so many times". That is the most honest thing coming out of him.

Backtracking from his earlier pronouncement is rare indeed. Which goes to show the people are no longer gullible, subservient, trusting or deferring.

If you say stupid things, you will get lambasted. No matter who you are.

The Analyser: Mahathir said, "I have no ambition to become a minister, (neither) senior minister nor minister mentor or whatever." Translated, that reads: "I want the power but none of the responsibility."

"I think at the moment, with support, I think he can lead," when translated, it reads: "With me telling him what to do..."

Just a Malaysian: Dr M's role should be to create a strong and viable opposition to bring BN down and leave the rest to the new team. He has already done enough damage through his poor judgement.

We need no more of his advice. His successors Pak Lah (Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) and Najib Razak have taken Malaysia backwards by 20 years.

Goldee: Umno, before it was declared illegal in 1988, was different from the current Umno Baru. Dr M knows that the Umno Baru he formed is not the same party.

Therefore, it is wrong to say that Umno then and now is the same party. Umno Baru is only 28 years old.

Columnist Mariam Mokhtar always refers Umno as Umno Baru simply because Umno has been dead and gone since 1988.

Sarawakian: In my humble opinion, the position of Bersatu chairperson exists because you, Mahathir, are a control freak. And you destroyed the country's institutions because you didn't like being checked and balanced.

Have you learnt nothing from our present crisis? If your party's supreme council can't check the president, how can the chairperson? And what happens when the 91-year-old chairperson is gone?

Have you not yet realised that checks and balances can only be achieved with a free press, freedom of information, and strong and independent institutions?

Trump assails Bill Clinton, vows to jail Hillary if he wins

Vijay47: Having watched the US presidential candidate debate live and read the post-debate analysis, I was shocked to learn that Republican candidate Donald Trump "performed better than he did previously".

If that was indeed the case, I dread to imagine what he must have done at the earlier occasion.

Most of the while, Democrats candidate Hillary Clinton came across as calm, composed, and focussed on the question, unlike Trump, who was rambling and just kept referring to Hillary's so-called wasted 30 years as a member of congress.

We could hold similar debates in Malaysia, but there is a strong likelihood that one of the two combatants would chicken out at the last minute despite proudly claiming to have 'Nothing to Hide'.

Back in the USSA (no, Editor, that is not a mistake), chances are that come November, the United States will for the first time in history have a lady president.

But fret not, Trump, you can always try your luck here, since according to Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, there is already a post of president in Malaysia.

And to clinch victory, you can have Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe as your running mate.

Headhunter: This is the type of debate we would like to see in Malaysia, but it's only a pipe dream because most dare not show their weakness and their potential or rather, the lack of it.

The only ones who dare to take it on are probably opposition leaders such as Anwar, Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, Rafizi Ramli and Tony Pua, to name just a few.

BN has such weak leaders who only dare to make unsubstantiated accusations against their opponents to their press.

WTFcuk: Here, politicians have nothing to talk about since they succeed through knowing someone, not being knowledgeable.

The Analyser: From this US town-hall debate, it looks like America has embraced Malaysian-style politics... it's all about personalities, race, religion, vindictiveness and revenge.

Who would ever have thought the rest of the world would sink to Malaysian standards?
