Lawyer Mohd Haniff Khatri Abdulla reminded Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan, who threatened to end services of lawyers with government-linked corporations who are seen opposing the government, that sustenance comes from God, not from human beings.

Haniff, who has represented former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and former Batu Kawan Umno division vice-chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan in their legal cases, said this is his sincere stand all the time, and that of many citizens as well.

“Good luck in trying to threaten us, Rahman, or any law firms that you meant. Most important of all, sustenance comes from Allah and does not or is not determined by human beings,” he said in criticising the minister's statement.

Haniff (photo) also said that his providing of advice to Mahathir and others who are bent on seeing Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak quit his post is legitimate, for it is not to topple the government as Rahman claimed, but to “lawfully bring about the removal of a wrongful PM”.

“I do not intend to give free legal advice to Rahman on the differences between the two phrases. He may as well get any legal advice through lawyers,” Haniff said in a Facebook posting.

“Wrong is wrong, even if everyone is doing it. Right is right, even if no one is doing it. "

Yesterday, Rahman said that such law firms involved in movements to topple the government would b blacklisted.

Haniff admitted that his firm is the panel for the Federal Territories Islamic Council (Maiwp) and the Selangor Islamic Council, which he said are GLCs within the meaning of the law but are corporate bodies formed by the respective state enactments.

“I have no problem if you want to bring this up with your colleague, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Islamic Affairs) Jamil Khir Baharom, to remove my firm from the panel of Maiwp if Rahman and the government want,” he said, and reminded Rahman to believe that sustenance comes from God, not from other beings.
