Gov't washes hands of Maria's detention

Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz said cabinet did not instruct police to detain Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma).

He said it was entirely the police's decision to detain Maria for 10 days under the security law.

Mega opposition ceramah minus DAP and Amanah planned

PAS will host a political rally in Selangor tonight, featuring speakers from PAS, PKR, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Ikatan, leaving out Amanah and DAP.

The ceramah comes a day before Pakatan Harapan, which comprises PKR, Amanah and DAP, meets with Bersatu to hammer out a formal alliance.

Amanah eyes T'ganu, Kelantan

PAS splinter party Amanah said it is confident of taking PAS' vote share in the two east coast states of Terengganu and Kelantan, president Mohamad Sabu said at the party convention.

A delegate from Selangor also urges Menteri Besar Azmin Ali to handle the problem of PAS in the administration, claiming political appointees are "thorns in the flesh" and are sabotaing Amanah's work at grassroots level.

However, the communications director Khalid Samad ticks off the delegate for calling other parties names like "thorn in the flesh", in light of possible cooperation.
