Bersatu-PAS pact in the works

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Muhyiddin Yassin said an agreement to set up a technical committee with PAS on cooperation would help unite the opposition.

Parti Amanah Negara deputy president Salahuddin Ayub was not opposed to the Bersatu-PAS plan but urged the final agreement to be expedited ahead of the general election.

PKR president Azmin Ali, who had tirelessly tried to court PAS, welcomed the Bersatu-PAS deal.

The Election Commission said it had sold 14 nomination forms for the Tanjung Datu by-election, which is to be held following the death of former Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem.

Meanwhile, Amanah announced that it will not be contesting in the by-election.

Umno leaders to face the law

Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos was arrested for alleged gang robbery.

This was over the raids Jamal conducted on what he claimed to be gambling dens in Taman Kosas, Ampang on Dec 29.

Firdaus Tajuddin, son of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Deputy Minister Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, is also expected to be charged soon for allegedly rioting on Parliament grounds.

Last November, Firdaus led a group of people claiming to be from Pasir Salak and confronted Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad as he arrived in Parliament for allegedly insulting his father.

The lion dance troupe that performed for Najib Abdul Razak decried claims they snubbed the prime minister.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng rebuffed Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor's suggestion that the state be turned into a federal territory.
