The mother of four-year-old Laraniya Wilbert protested outside the Bukit Aman police headquarters today over what she claimed was police inaction over the death of her daughter.

A tearful Prem Sri carried a photo of her deceased daughter and was supported by activists from Organisasi Penggerak Sosial dan Minda Nambikkai (Nambikkai).

They submitted a memorandum demanding that police investigate the case, which Prem Sri claimed was a case of hospital negligence.

"It's been 29 days since a police report was made but there has been no follow up.

"An investigation paper has not been opened and we don't even know who is the investigating officer in charge of the case," said Nambikai president Kalai Vanar after submitting the memorandum addressed to inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar.

"Nambikkai requests that Khalid, who surely also has a family, children and grandchildren, to show his concern and act," he said.

He wants the case to be investigated under Section 304A of the Penal Code, which provides up to two years imprisonment, a fine or both for causing death due to negligence.

Laraniya was transported in an ambulance to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang on March 20.

Prem Sri claimed her daughter was still alive when she left but the hospital said Laraniya was dead on arrival.

"Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang would like to state that the patient named Laraniya Wilbert was brought in an unconscious state to the Emergency Unit of HTAR at 9.30pm on March 20, 2017 with body spasms.

"Initial examination of the patient found that she showed no signs of life and CPR was initiated by emergency medicine specialists. The measures, however failed to resuscitate the patient," the hospital had said.

Prem Sri had on March 28 also lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam).
