The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has received a list of names and details of football players and officials from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) for "monitoring" purposes.

The commission, in a statement today, said the list was handed following MACC's top officers' meeting with FAM president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim last night.

"In the meeting last night, His Royal Highness the Tunku Mahkota of Johor ordered the MACC to help ensure the national football arena is 'clean' and free from graft and abuse of power.

"We will abide by His Royal Highness' order and will accord our utmost support and commitment to ensure the national football is free of these unsightly elements at all levels," said the statement.

"Also at the meeting, MACC received names and personal details of national football players, referees, team officials, as well as FAM staff, for 'monitoring' purposes."

The commission said they had full confidence that FAM, under Tunku Ismail's leadership, will achieve change and excellence in national football.

Those present at the meeting with Tunku Ismail were MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad, MACC deputy commissioner (operations) Azam Baki, Johor MACC director Azmi Alias, as well as FAM secretary-general Hamidin Mohd Amin.

MACC had recently extended its crackdown against graft to include football, as evidenced by the arrest of three footballers from the Malaysian Indian Football Association (MIFA) for allegedly taking bribes to fix the matches, and the hunt for a former national footballer who acted as a bookie for the three players.
