The special aide to a Penang DAP assemblyperson, who is suspected of being involved in a sex crime involving a part-time waitress, has been remanded for two days.

The 50-year-old former Penang municipal councillor will be remanded until tomorrow, Northeast district police chief Anuar Omar said today.

"The remand was allowed by subordinate courts (crime) senior assistant registrar Ahmad Tajudin Zain," Anuar added.

Last night, the suspect, who came with his lawyer, turned himself in at the Northeast District police headquarters on Jalan Pattani.

He was then detained and investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for sexual assault with the intention of outraging the modesty of the woman, who is a student at a private institution in Penang.

The alleged sex crime took place at a carpark of an entertainment outlet on Lebuh Pantai on the night of July 6.

The 21-year-old victim lodged a police report against the suspect on July 7.

DAP leaders have called for a thorough investigation into the matter, with state chief Chow Kon Yeow saying, "No one is above the law. Let the police investigate."

Meanwhile, the victim was present at a press conference organised by Parti Cinta Malaysia vice-president Huan Cheng Guan in Air Itam today.

The woman, who only identified herself as Tan, alleged that the suspect had asked her for a settlement via a third party.

Dressed in a white shirt, wearing a cap and concealing her face with a scarf, the victim claimed the suspect sent his friend to meet her at her workplace on Jalan Pantai last Friday, a day after the incident.

“I did not accept, I feel the settlement is not appropriate, I work so that my family’s burden is less, so I felt insulted by it,” she said, speaking softly, in Chinese.

She was accompanied by her boyfriend, who only wanted to be known as Yeoh, 33. Her remarks were translated by Huan, who sat beside her during the press conference.

Tan, an accounting student, said she was persuaded to share her grievances, by her family who deemed the matter “a serious case”.

Although she was reluctant to do so earlier, she later sought the help of Huan, who is also honorary Nepal consul-general to Penang.

During the press event, she showed reporters a pair of black shirt and pants, which she claimed to have worn during the time of the incident.

She claimed that the suspect had ejaculated on the garment while he was in a drunken state and attempting to outrage her modesty.

Huan then asked why the police had not seized the victim’s clothes as it can be used as a crucial piece of evidence in the case.

Asked on this, Anuar said: "What is the problem? We are investigating a case related to outraging of modesty, not rape...does he (Huan) know the law?

"We will take it (clothes) of it is related to the case," he added.
