Jamal to add fishy twist to anti-kleptocracy rally

Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos is planning to sell fish during the opposition's anti-kleptocracy rally at Padang Timur in Petaling Jaya on Saturday.

“Yes. I confirm. I will start selling fish in the afternoon,” he told Malaysiakini.

In another news report, Jamal noted how the rally is supposed to have a carnival-like atmosphere with scores of traders expected to sell their respective products.

“That’s why I don’t see a need to apply for a permit," he was quoted as saying by Berita Daily.

Last month, the politician, who is known for his controversial antics, sold various types of fish for a song at RM5 per kilogram.

This was in protest of middlemen whom Jamal claimed were responsible for the hike in fish prices. He claimed the middlemen were linked to the opposition and had political motives.

This afternoon, Jamal was at the Ampang Point shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur, where he pledged to continue targeting Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali with his "Pesta DAP" - Dapat Aiskrim Percuma ("DAP festival" - Get Free Ice Cream).

His next stop will be the PKR deputy president's parliamentary constituency of Gombak tonight.

"We will do this campaign every day in Selangor until we hear Azmin has clearly stated his stand against any beer festivals," he said after distributing free ice creams to visitors at the mall.

"And I am distributing locally made ice creams, so there are other benefits as well," he added.

Jamal had first announced plans to organise the ice-cream festival last week as an "alternative" to Oktoberfest festivals after being freed from police custody.

He was arrested after smashing several crates of beer bottles outside the Selangor state secretariat office in Shah Alam.

Umno leaders have distanced themselves from Jamal, who became prominent after he held the red-shirts protests to counter Bersih rallies.
