Sabah PAS commissioner Mohd Aminuddin Aling has reminded all politicians that politics should not be used as a platform to acquire wealth.

He recalled the words of the late PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who said that those who wanted to be rich should not enter politics, but should do business instead.

In a statement published in Harakah Daily, Aminuddin said this was in line with the politics of PAS which is premised on principles and Islamic tenets.

“The current situation shows there is an inclination for politicians to join politics for wealth. This includes those from the government and opposition,” he added.

Aminuddin also praised Kelantan PAS, which has ruled the state since 1990, for not being involved in cases of corruption or abuse of power during this period.

“Corruption is a huge bane in society. If it becomes widespread, it would lead to oppression. It can destroy the system of governance and administration...,” he said.

Aminuddin said Sabah PAS welcomed the efforts by MACC to curb corruption.

“Sabah PAS hopes all politicians prioritise championing the people instead of making a fortune for themselves,” he added.

Aminuddin's statement comes in the wake of MACC detaining several individuals to facilitate investigations into the alleged siphoning of funds meant for rural development in Sabah.

Yesterday, MACC detained Hamid Apdal, the brother of former rural and regional development minister Mohd Shafie Apdal.

Shafie, who was dropped as a minister in 2015 due to his critical views on 1MDB, is currently the president of the Sabah-based opposition party Parti Warisan Sabah.

MACC also remanded two Sabah Umno Youth leaders and a WarisanYouth chief in relation to the case.
