Yoursay: It’s official, M’sia now worse than many third world nations

YOURSAY | ‘The good news is, we are still better than Zimbabwe.’

M'sia one rank above Zimbabwe at bottom of electoral integrity index

Rico Suave: As usual, the Putrajaya-based Election Commission (EC) will continue doing as they do, while the opposition will waste their money and time taking voter objections to the court, hoping against hope that some judges would defy their paymasters. Except that the same hand holding their leash also holds the EC's.

Meanwhile, the “approximately equal size” stated in the Constitution has been stretched beyond recognition, where the newly crafted Damansara parliament seat can have over 150,000 voters while the Putrajaya constituency is eight times smaller.

It's too easy to be cynical and say both sides are the same, but when only one side has control of the courts and supposedly independent bodies, any 'both sides' debate is a false equivalence.

Yes, it's easy to stay at home on polling day because the opposition is terrible, but then don't complain when BN rule for another 60 years.

Hbasill: Syabas, Malaysia for the fantastic ranking of 142 out 158 (in the electoral integrity index).

It cannot get any better with BN, can it? Over five decades in power and we are at 142, just above mighty Zimbabwe.

VGV: What a great shame to our country to be placed in the last bottom. Well, we deserve to be ranked this low as our leader is one step above the recently removed dictator of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe.

Blame it on the horrible EC as they are the "lap dog" of Umno/BN. Nothing is working well in our system of governance and management.

Only a change could bring our country back on the right track, as at present, we are governed by corrupt leaders who are taking us in the wrong direction.

Donald and Minny: To Kai Ostwald, the political science researcher who did this study, the traitors that hired you don't really care what you say to Malaysians, as their game is to spread hatred and nothing more.

Your supposed “list" that puts Malaysia above Zimbabwe could be a figment of your imagination and fake news designed to cheat Malaysians who think the “white man" is the smartest.

Go back from where you came from, we are doing fine. Thank you, and close the door behind you.

AL 7718: So we can expect the government to merely dismiss this. Perhaps this researcher’s survey was done by those countries which are “jealous” of Malaysia success?

Only news that is favourable to Malaysia is not fake news.

Simple Malaysian: Indeed, what does the cabinet say to this? Fake news, Zionist plot, Anwar Ibrahim is a traitor, DAP poisoned international image of the country, international jealousy, etc?

Clever Voter: It wouldn’t be a surprise if such a report is regarded as external interference. Who cares what the world really thinks, some may even suggest.

There will be a time when this becomes a criterion among progressive nations when it comes to diplomacy and trade.

In a regressive nation such as ours, there are so many wrongs that these global-ranking standards have become incompatible with the electoral process and system.

Anonymous 2460391489930458: I disagree with the findings. Malaysia is worse than Zimbabwe!

Why? Because even Mugabe resigned under pressure whereas Prime Minister Najib Razak will never resign under any circumstances.

Anonymous 1719401496919916: It is official, Malaysia has become a pariah state. We are worse than some third world countries.

We have but 16 places to reach the bottom. We will probably get there sooner than expected.

Sleepy: Presumably this ranking is from before Mugabe resigned during the recent coup, so I wonder what our actual ranking is now?

Anyway, there goes my right to crack jokes referring to Zimbabwe as the worst country…

Retnam: Kai, you missed out the following: one, Malaysia has a bumiputera policy which the other category five countries do not have, and two, the economic progress of Malaysia is largely because of the overseas Chinese here.

Don't tell me you have not read billionaire Robert Kuok's pearls of wisdom? If not for the unbelievably hardworking and honest Chinese here, the economy would have gone ‘kaput’ long ago.

Anonymous 1719401496919916: This is confirmation of what Kuok has deduced in his memoir. We are a ‘failed state in waiting’.

Freethinker: Well, the good news is, we are still better than Zimbabwe. Pun intended.

'I think Parliament can be dissolved tomorrow,' Najib jests

Anonymous 2436471476414726: So Prime Minister Najib Razak is thumping his chest again, just for being able to complete the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Negeri Sembilan at the cost of RM34.29 million.

I don't understand the chest thumping. Isn't it the responsibility of the government to reduce costs as much as possible? But this is only peanuts.

With the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), why is the cost overinflated to RM55 billion, when it should cost only RM29 billion?

Why did Mara buy a building in Australia for A$41.8 million when the market price is A$23.5 million only? We can quote many other instances where the government pay inflated prices for projects.

Rick Teo: Najib doesn’t seem to know that the silent majority is just waiting to vote him out. He doesn’t even know that the Negeri Sembilan MB is unpopular and most likely will even lose his seat.

The next election will see Pakatan Harapan winning the state. But thanks for building the UTC, anyway.

Cina Sudah Mari: Is this how a leader behaves? I find it distasteful and inappropriate when the country is already beset by so many problems.

Of course, the biggest problem this forsaken country is facing is him. Just go, for goodness’ sake, just go.
