Police arrest 13 in connection with JB petrol station murder

Police have so far detained nine men and four women in connection with the murder of a man at a petrol station in Taman Pelangi here, last Sunday. 

State police chief Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said all the suspects are aged between 16 and 26.

“Yesterday, a man and a woman were picked up in Penang, while another four men and three women were arrested in Singapore with assistance from the Singapore Police.

“Today, four other men were detained in Johor, bringing the total to nine men and four women,” he said in a statement, here today. 

Five of the men and a woman had been remanded for seven days to facilitate further investigations into the case, he said, adding that the police were in the midst of tracking down few other suspects.

In the 7.30pm incident last Sunday, the 44-year-old victim died on the spot after he was stabbed by four men. In their attempt to flee the scene, the suspects ran over the man twice with their white BMW car.

The murder took place when the man, who was accompanied by a foreign woman in her 20s who is believed to be his wife, was inflating the tyres of his car.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was reported as saying that the victim was a secret society leader, and the attack was part of an ongoing dispute between two gangs.
