Yoursay: Ezam, keep ‘Azmin as PM’ idea to yourself

YOURSAY | ‘No one outside the Harapan leadership council should meddle in this important matter.’

Ezam moots Azmin as Harapan's PM candidate

Bluemountains: It's best for former PKR leader and former Umno senator Ezam Mohd Nor to keep his ideas to himself. No one outside the Pakatan Harapan leadership council should meddle in this important matter.

The Harapan leadership knows best and it is the duty of all supporters and sympathisers to accept and abide by its decision. Ezam's suggestion will cause a rift in Harapan; if he cannot contribute, he should not be a spoiler.

Anonymous 242641505703475: Ezam has some good points in suggesting that young leaders like Azmin Ali, former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir and PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar should be the ones to take the nation forward.

It is true that as menteri besar of Selangor, Azmin has a good rapport with the royalty and has a balanced view of things. He probably has some ideas of good governance which he could implement for the good of the people of Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Mukhriz is from Kedah and could pull in the youth votes over there while Nurul Izzah undoubtedly, is a calm, considerate and collected leader in her own right. I think there are other leaders, among the Malays, who are capable of handling affairs of the state.

What about former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, and Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari? Muhyiddin has vast experience in the administration of the nation, besides being menteri besar of Johor.

Now, why not throw the net wider and take in non-Malays as well? It boils down to capability. As the saying goes, white cat, black cat, yellow cat or female cat does not matter. Can the cat catch mice, that’s the question.

Fairnsquare: Let us not judge Azmin based on the Kajang move alone.

He had to keep PAS in the state government and this required political manoeuvring which he handled very well. He is prime ministerial material.

However, the main objective of Harapan should be reforms, not vengeance.

Mahathir and Anwar must lead a reform advisory council with absolute powers in bringing about reforms which include: separation of powers and independence of the judiciary; the implementation of rule of law and the independence of the judiciary; the reinstatement of the powers of the monarchy in the passing of Bills in Parliament; the enforcement of the Rukun Negara and the independence of the Ministry of Finance, never to be handled by a prime minister.

They must also be tasked with the recovery of assets seized by the US Department of Justice and to bring those responsible to justice.

Anonymous 2460541488536656: Unfortunately, this suggestion came from Ezam - someone not known for his principles. If I were Azmin, I would stay away from him.

Hamzah Paiman: Azmin is not prime ministerial material yet. Don't get carried away by Ezam's two cents’ worth, he may be trying his luck at splitting the opposition.

There is a long way to go for Azmin to build trust with the people. For now, he should just focus on the administration of Selangor.

Anonymous #33227154: PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli is a much better candidate for prime minister. Azmin is simply not prime ministerial material.

The opposition should not make the Umno mistake of choosing cronies over meritocracy. Otherwise, what's the difference from the present Umno-led government?

Anonymous 242641505703475: There is one critical issue in Ezam's choice of potential candidates: Malay hegemony. Race and religion do not play well in today’s competitive world.

Hence, a better benchmark is meritocracy, in any field of enterprise whether the Olympics, the Nobel Prize winners, or great poets and writers. Everything boils down to the best person who wins, so if we wish to have the best for the nation, not merely the best for the race, then we must learn to take the best among the people.

Additionally, age does not matter as an old cock can crow as well as a young cockerel. So, have all the cocks and hens, old and young! Of course, the old can advise the young on how to crow if need be. Be inclusive, not exclusive.

Anonymous_1419577444: We all know Ezam is as much of a frog as Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali, except that Ibrahim is more principled nowadays as he hasn’t jumped in a long time.

So, why should we even be bothered about Ezam's views, as he has no credibility at all and does not deserve any coverage in cyberspace? He's probably just trying to stir things up for ulterior motives.
