Religious authorities fingered in Suhakam inquiry; Azmin's message for PAS

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Religious authorities fingered in Suhakam inquiry

Suhakam resumed its inquiry into alleged "enforced disappearances" in the case of Amri Che Mat after it was forced to suspend the inquiry into pastor Raymond Koh.

Amri's wife Norhayati Ariffin testified that Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin was present when police and state religious authorities raided their home and the office of Perlis Hope, an NGO co-founded by her husband.

She also complained that Perlis police were reluctant to act following her husband's abduction.

Responding to Norhayati's accusation, Asri claimed Amri had links to Syiah Islam, considered deviant by the government in Malaysia, which largely comprises Sunni Muslims.

Azmin's message for PAS

Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali questioned why PAS wanted to take over the Selangor government when it is already part of the state government, together with PKR and DAP.

Azmin also urged PAS state assemblypersons facing funding issues to engage with him or the district officers instead of dragging the Selangor royal palace into the matter.

Selangor PKR Youth secretary Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman lashed out at PAS for wanting to capture Selangor on its own, and he called on the party to quit the current coalition state government.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Mat spoke out against the campaign to spoil votes, stating that the people should instead vote for PAS if they disagreed with both BN and Pakatan Harapan.
