The party's top leadership will allow Selangor Harapan to continue with its seat negotiations and sees no need for it to intervene as of now, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said today.
He said he was confident their negotiations will be completed within the stipulated time frame, previously pegged at Jan 31.
“For state seat negotiations, we will leave it to the wisdom of the state leadership to find the best solution.
“For now (the talks) are still underway so there is no need for the involvement of the central leadership yet.
“I am optimistic that Selangor will complete (their talks) within the time frame set,” Saifuddin said when asked during a press conference at the PKR headquarters today.
Selangor Harapan chief Azmin Ali was previously accused by his allies of stalling the formal seat negotiations by having “secret negotiations” with PAS over a possible electoral pact.
This has since been denied by state Harapan secretary Zuraida Kamaruddin, who claimed several formal meetings have already been held.
“Selangor Pakatan Harapan, led by PKR, is in the process of seat negotiations for state seats in the upcoming 14th general election.
“To ensure this goes smoothly, the Selangor Pakatan Harapan electoral committee meetings, led by Seri Andalas assemblyperson Xavier Jeyakumar, have been held four times,” Zuraida had previously said.
She also called for patience from allies to ensure the opposition retains Selangor, which the BN is out to reclaim.
“I hope no one tries to purposely trivialise all the efforts that Selangor Pakatan Harapan has done and willfully let us be broken up by Umno/BN who are desperate to snatch Selangor.
“In facing the mother of all elections this time, we have to be smart in our strategy and utilize a suitable approach to maintain our state government which has an excellent administration,” she added.
