Liow: DAP arrogant in wanting to eliminate MCA from M'sian politics

MCA president Liow Tiong Lai (above, left) called DAP "arrogant" for supposedly wanting to wipe out MCA from the country's political scene.

Liow said this in response to DAP's plan to field heavyweight candidates against top MCA leaders in the coming 14th general election.

"This shows that they are arrogant in having the wrong mission to totally eliminate MCA from Malaysian politics," he told a press conference after an MCA gathering in Ipoh today.

On March 18, the DAP announced that its Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong will move to Ayer Hitam in the next general election to challenge MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong, who is also minister in the prime minister's department.

The DAP is also speculated to file more heavyweights against other MCA leaders.

Apart from MCA, the DAP is also setting its sights on Gerakan with DAP sources telling Malaysiakini that two-term Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming will be moved to Teluk Intan to challenge Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong (below).

However, Liow said he believes the people will not support DAP's attempt to wipe out MCA or Gerakan.

"The DAP will not determine who will be eliminated from the political scene. It is the rakyat.

"The rakyat today, especially the Chinese community, can see what the DAP is doing and are very angry with their arrogance," he said.

Liow claimed despite the Chinese community giving the DAP strong support in the last general election, which saw the party winning 38 parliamentary seats and 96 state seats, the party had failed to deliver.

"They are more on rhetoric and sentiment, playing on negative energy to split the community and to get votes from there," he said.
