Penang state executive councillor Dr Afif Bahardin (above) today revealed documents pertaining to alleged corrupt practices involving an Umno MP linked to a bumiputera government agency in the state.

According to Afif, although a report was lodged with MACC, to date no action was taken against those alleged to be corrupt.

"I received these documents from an anonymous source […] they were delivered to my office a few days ago. The material involves company search statements and cheques related to the allegations," Afif said at a press conference.

"The documents state that an Umno MP has allegedly received millions of ringgit as kickback through a proxy agent after approving the appointment of contractors in developing land belonging to the government-linked agency," said the Seberang Jaya assemblyperson.

Afif wants the MACC to verify if they have received a report on the matter and if action would be taken against the perpetrators.

He expressed disappointment that the GLC which was set up by the federal government to protect the rights of the Malays has failed in their duties and responsibilities.

Malaysiakini is withholding the MP's and the company's names pending a response from both.

On a separate matter, Afif said the country was becoming a "fascist state" with the introduction of the Anti-Fake News Bill 2018 and the passing of the Election Commission's redelineation report by Parliament.

He said the two moves showed how "desperate" Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's administration was to prevent changes sought by Pakatan Harapan and the people.

"The Anti-Fake News Bill is an assault on democracy, liberty and freedom of speech. It is also an attack against our constitution and against the very basic right of every citizen of this country," said Afif, who is PKR's national deputy chief.

He said the EC's re-delineation exercise was a manipulation of electoral and demographic systems to allows the ruling party to maintain its grip on power.
