Pakatan Harapan Langkawi has complained of a mushrooming of provocative posters painting Dr Mahathir Mohamad as being subservient to DAP.

According to Sinar Harian today, the banners appeared at various main roads around the northern island, a Mahathir stronghold.

A photograph accompanying the report depicted a banner with DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang and Mahathir, with a rocket logo and the words ‘Mahathir is with DAP’ (Mahathir bersama DAP).

Umno-BN has been painting DAP as ant-Malay and anti-Muslim in the run up to the coming general election, particularly after ex-Umno leaders led by the former premier forged a pact with Pakatan Harapan.

According to the report, Langkawi Pakatan Harapan Youth chief Mohd Firdaus Ahmad has lodged a police report over the banners.

“Such provocation should rightfully not happen.

“They are trying to incite religious and racial sentiments, to create a perception of disharmony.

“We are concerned if left unchecked, this would lead to racial tensions,” he was reported as saying.

“We want the police to investigate and find the mastermind behind this incident.

Mohd Firdaus, who is also Langkawi Bersatu Youth chief, said they detected the banners at approximately 11.30 the previous night.

Patrolling the island, they took down over 40 banners, removing more the next day.

“I believe Langkawi Umno is increasingly scared of Bersatu’s influence, especially Mahathir.

“They will do anything to stay in power, as they have never lost here (in Langkawi).”

Mohd Firdaus said Mahathir has been drawing thousands at their ceramah.
