Malaysia Airlines adds 40 more flights for GE14

Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) will be mounting 40 additional flights and upgrading 10 flights to wide-body services to selected domestic destinations between May 5 and 10 due to the 14th General Election (GE14).

In a statement today, MAB said the additional flights were being provided as the airline saw a surge in demand to several routes in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak for voters to cast their votes on May 9.

MAB also encouraged passengers to make their bookings early and to choose to fly on earlier or later flights to enjoy competitive airfares.

“The airline will continue to monitor the local market trend and consider mounting more flights to more cities to ensure the supply matches the demand.

“MAB, together with its sister airlines Firefly and MASwings, will also be waiving flight change fee for Malaysians with existing bookings with the airlines to allow Malaysians to balik kampung and vote,” it said.

It added the waiver was applicable for all types of tickets for travel dates between May 8 and 10 inbound or outbound.

Lowcost airline AirAsia had also before this announced that it will arrange special fares and flights to facilitate voters travelling home to vote in the upcoming 14th general election (GE14).- Bernama
