Liew: Umno is the 'real architect' of MCA's elimination plan

DAP strategist Liew Chin Tong (above) has described Umno as the "real architect" behind the impending "elimination" of MCA.

Liew said that at present, Umno and MCA were still squabbling over seat allocations, unlike Pakatan Harapan which has already completed their process nationwide.

Moreover, the redrawing of electoral boundaries had also made it more difficult for MCA to win in elections, he said.

"It is clear that Umno is the real architect behind the elimination of MCA. MCA members should realise by now who their real enemies are," said Liew in a statement today.

Liew was responding to recent claims by MCA leaders that DAP was out to "eliminate" MCA and Gerakan in the upcoming general elections.

Among others, MCA spokesperson Ti Lian Ker claimed that DAP was trying to monopolise Chinese political representation in a new federal government.

On uncertainty over MCA's seat allocation, Liew pointed out that MCA had to make way for Umno candidates in Kuantan, Wangsa Maju and Gelang Patah in 2013.

This time around, MCA might even have to do so in Bandar Tun Razak, Lumut and Tebrau.

"This is really bad for MCA. Even its seemingly winnable seats were taken away by Umno and Umno intends to grab even more seats from MCA.

"Can we see now who is trying to eliminate MCA?" said Liew.

On the redrawing of electoral boundaries, Liew said the new borders now greatly favour Umno at MCA's expense.

"MCA did oppose the proposed redelineation in September 2016 but as a subservient member of Umno-led BN, it provided full support when the matter was debated in Parliament on the March 28.

"That was a suicidal decision for MCA," he added.
