GE14 | Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming looks set to take on two Gerakan heavyweights during the upcoming general election.

Last night, DAP announced that Nga will be the coalition's candidate for the Aulong state seat, which likely means he will face off against Perak Gerakan head Soo Kay Peng.

This follows DAP's decision to field Nga for the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat, which will see him do battle with incumbent MP and Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong.

Aulong is one of three state seats under the Taiping parliamentary constituency, which Nga has represented for two terms.

If Soo is indeed fielded in Aulong, this would be his second attempt to wrest the seat from DAP. He garnered 33 percent of the votes on his last attempt.

Meanwhile, incumbent Aulong assemblyperson Leow Thye Yih will be fielded as DAP’s candidate for the adjacent Pokok Assam seat.

As for the incumbent Pokok Assam assemblyperson Teh Kok Ping, he would be fielded as DAP's candidate for Taiping.

Teh would be facing off against yet another Gerakan heavyweight in form of Tan Keng Liang, the party's youth chief.

Soo, Teh and Leow are locals, while Nga and Tan are not.

Tan has repeatedly accused opposition personalities of "running away" to other constituencies to avoid being judged by their voters.

"What happens to their unfulfilled promises in the previous general election? We urge the opposition to allow existing voters to judge their performance," he said in a recent statement.

Tan said that, unlike Nga, he will not "run away" and remain with the people of Taiping.

Over at Kamunting, the third state constituency under the Taiping parliamentary constituency, the elections will likely involve a clash between two former Universiti Teknologi Petronas staff.

Umno's Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid, a two-term state cabinet member, will likely have to defend his seat against Amanah's Muhd Fadhil Nuruddin.

PAS is expected to name their candidate for Taiping and Kamunting tonight.
