GE14 | 1MDB chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy has responded to a Malaysiakini live blog entry which stated that he was grilled by a member of the audience at a BN ceramah in Shah Alam last night.

Arul said the man had asked him questions but did not listen to the answers.

“He was facing the stage but was talking to his friends and using his phone. Malaysiakini doesn't highlight this part.

Malaysiakini also doesn't highlight that I spent more than 10 minutes answering each and every point raised by him.

“The Malaysiakini headline is thus misleading- it implies I was 'rapped' by him but in fact, it is quite the opposite. He asked five questions and was not even interested in the answers given, whereas I took the time and effort to give a detailed explanation to his queries,” he added.

Arul also accused Malaysiakini of shielding the fact that the man was sent by the opposition to provoke.

“What he clearly did not expect, was that I could answer all his questions satisfactorily. And you only need to hear the cheers from the crowd, upon each answer being given, to know that,” he added.

Malaysiakini had reported that the man, who identified himself as Zulfahan Pagon, a former Umno member, had quizzed Arul on details surrounding the US Department of Justice (DO) suits and 1MDB's audited accounts.

He also accused Arul of lying about the USD681 million deposited into the account of caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Malaysiakini also reported that Arul told the man that he was spinning the issue using allegations raised by the opposition.

"How does he asks the questions? He is just stating the opposition spin (on 1MDB)," Arul was quoted as saying.

Malaysiakini also reported that Arul's remark elicited cries of “Betul” (correct) from the audience.
